History
OneRoof was founded in October 2005 to franchise cyber cafés in the developing world, offering a range of Internet-enabled services in small rural towns: email and browsing, financial services, insurance, rail/bus/air ticketing, education, and job skills training. We opened many browsing centres in rural Tamil Nadu state in southern India, and in the states of Campeche, Veracruz and Yucatan of rural Mexico.
Our need for timely information from our locations in India and Mexico led us to research most point-of-sale (POS) software products, from which we chose CyberCafePro for use in our businesses. In 2008, we started moving beyond the rudimentary reporting features of the otherwise solid CyberCafePro by creating a robust, web-based management information system. While this work was done for internal purposes, we began to hear of interest in licensing our software from colleagues working in government-funded telecentre networks, from owners of private cyber cafés and from government officials around the world.
Early in 2009, OneRoof changed its primary focus to meet these global needs among telecentre networks and cyber cafés for actionable, timely information.
By adding advertising-support after acquiring CyberCafePro, OneRoof was able to make this market-leading POS software (previously selling for up to $1499) free; and like the Internet should be, make it universally available to all public access locations — thus indirectly helping people's aspirations, freedoms and quality of life.
CyberCafePro Online, a unique web-based online management information service, was launched in February 2010 as an integrated add-on to the desktop CyberCafePro software.
Both cyber cafés and telecentres using our technology significantly enhance their chances to sustainably serve their communities.
